What Is A Personal Air Purifier?

Have you heard the term personal air
purifier? Now, you may be thinking,
"what the heck is a personal air
purifier? I'm not going to carry one of
those big bulky things around."

Well, you're in luck! You don't have to
carry a big bulky air purifier around
under your arm. You can wear an air
purifier around your neck. An they're
not big and bulky. Today's personal air
purifiers are about the size of a butane
lighter and hand around your neck on a
strap.

So why would you want a personal air
purifier? Think about how we travel
today, especially in crowded cities or
on air planes. Many of our modes of
transportation cause us to be in close
quarters with the traveling public. And
if you are unlucky enough to have to
ride the bus or subway and are even more
unlucky to end up as a "straphanger" you
just might be looking right into
someone's mouth on your ride to work in
the morning.

And don't think you're off the hook, a
little pun there, if you use different
modes of public transportation.
Airplanes recycle the same air through
their entire flight. Yes, the air is
filtered, but what if someone on the
plane is sick. Do you want to be
breathing their air your entire flight?

That's where a personal air purifier can
help. What they do is create an
"exclusion zone" around your head that
helps keep harmful bacteria and
particles out of your breathing space.
This happens by the unit emitting an ion
wind that charges particles, causing
them to repel each other, thus moving
them out of your immediate breathing
space.

The purifier creates this exclusion zone
that extends out about 2 to 3 feet from
the wearer's head. This exclusion zone
can substantially reduce the amount of
dust, particles, smoke, bacteria and
yes, even perfumes. So, if Grandma goes
a little heavy on the perfume during
holidays, you can be prepared next time
with a personal air purifier.

While personal air purifiers are great
for use in crowded areas to give you
cleaner air to breathe, they are not a
substitute for times when a mask should
be in use. When involved in any
operation like sanding, chemical
spraying, or other times when heavy
particulate or sprays will be a factor,
proper safety equipment should always be
used.
